How Can I Check the raw Markdown of a post? (Perhaps to copy it)

#1

Indeed. For example, take this syllabus:

https://literatecomputing.com/t/syllabus-isd581-2016-spring/2446

The last number there is the topic-id. To get the raw content of any post you can access it with a URL like this:

https://literatecomputing.com/raw/2446

NOTE: At the time of this writing, there is a bug that requires you to reload this link if you click on it directly. If you open it in a new tab, it will work the first time.

If you would like the contents of a reply to that post, you need the post-id. To find it, click the link icon on a post you want to see. It will look something like this:

https://literatecomputing.com/t/the-end-is-near/2849/2?u=pfaffman

The second number is the post-id. So to get that message, the URL would be

https://literatecomputing.com/raw/2849/2

How to Copy a post from one place to another

If you would like to copy an entire post from one place (perhaps a Discourse that you do not have administrative access to) to another, you can do the following:

  1. Get the post ID and generate the raw url as above
  • Type control-A (Mac users use option instead of control ) to select all of the text
  • control-c to copy the text
  • move to your Discourse, and type a c to Create a new post
  • control-v to paste in the text

Done!
